To deepen students’ national identity and fulfil the educational goal of cultivating “Responsible Citizenship,” Stanley Ho East Asia College (SHEAC) recently co-organised two significant national education events. Through field visits and solemn ceremonies, students and faculty were guided to deepen their understanding of national security and the mission of contemporary youth, translating patriotic education into conscious civic action.

Visiting the National Security Education Fair: Strengthening Awareness

On the afternoon of 29 April, SHEAC co-organised a visit with Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College to the Complex of Commerce and Trade Co-operation Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries for the “National Security Education Fair.” The exhibition was hosted by the Macao SAR Government and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR.

Led by Resident Fellows Dr. Saul Chan and Dr. Elaine Chang, over 20 students of SHEAC studied the detailed historical archives and multimedia displays. The exhibition covered the evolution of the holistic approach to National Security and Macao’s achievements in safeguarding national interests. Through professional guidance, students realised that national security is the foundation of social development and personal growth, further strengthening their legal awareness and sense of responsibility toward the nation.

Gathering for May Fourth Ceremony: Inheriting the Spirit of Progress

On the morning of 4 May, to commemorate the May Fourth Movement and promote the spirit of youth advancement, College Master Prof. Kathy Luo, academic staff and over 40 students of SHEAC, gathered at the UM Lotus Square for the “May Fourth Youth Day Flag-Raising Ceremony” organised by the University.

Standing in solemn respect as the national flag was hoisted to the national anthem, the ceremony served as both a historical commemoration and an inspiration for modern youth. Participating students expressed that the spirit of “patriotism, progress, democracy, and science” remains highly relevant today. They pledged to actively engage in social practice and contribute their youthful energy to the steady implementation of “One Country, Two Systems.”

Implementing National Education: Remarkable Annual Milestones

These two events are part of the College’s diverse whole-person education framework. In the current 2025-26 academic year, the College has organised and participated in nearly 50 events and activities focused on “Responsible Citizenship,” including the “Learning about the ‘Two Sessions’,” appreciation of patriotic films and historical dramas, and promotional seminars and activities on the “Three Laws,” recording a total turnout of over 1,000 participations. Integrating national education and civic responsibility into college life is a core policy of SHEAC. The College will continue to collaborate closely with internal and external units to nurture outstanding students with national pride, social responsibility, and a global outlook.
